Full House

This week I watched an old rerun episode of Full House, not necessarily my show of choice, but hey it's on every hour. This episode was about DJ trying to arrange a fund raiser to raise money for her school to buy a new computer to publish their newspaper. DJ is able to hold the fund raiser at The Smash Club, her Uncle Jesse's night club. Her Uncle Joey is the comedy act and her Uncle Jesse's band plays during the fundraiser. Danny, DJ's father, gets upset that he is left out of all the plans. He decides that he is going to surprise DJ and sing a song with the band. While he is rehearsing "My Generation" by The Who's, DJ comes home and sees him. Danny is dressed in an all leather suit and jumping around while trying to sing. DJ gets embarrassed and says "I will never be able to show my face at school again!" Danny agrees not to sing at the fundraiser.

The fundraiser went well as planned and everyone had a good time. At the end of the fund raiser, DJ announces the bands last song and the guest singer, her Dad. Danny sings "My Girl" and didn't embarass DJ at all. It was a happy ending as usual.

While watching the show, I did catch a few commercials that where good examples of weasel words and manipulative advertising. The first one was an ad for Maybelline XXL mascara. It makes your lashes 10% longer. The other commercial was a KFC commercial that was advertising the kids laptop meals. They said that you need a real meal for real fun. I am so convinced that I have to run to KFC after this and get a "real" meal and some 10% longer lashes.

Good job pairing the reading with the show you watched. You might want to push just a little bit further with talking about the show itself, make some connections to larger issues that come up on the show, like father-daughter relationships or stuff like that.

Good work this week!
